NetSupport School integrates with Microsoft’s Active Directory structure, enabling you to manage Student and Tutor configurations centrally.
To make the task a little easier NetSupport supplies four ready-made Administrative Templates containing the configurable options. When you install NetSupport, the Template files are copied to the NetSupport School program folder.
NSS_Tutor_Machine.ADMX
This is a machine policy containing configurable options that will be applied to the NetSupport School Tutor.
NSS_Tutor_User.ADMX
This is a user policy containing configurable options that will be applied to the NetSupport School Tutor.
NSS_Student_Machine.ADMX
This is a machine policy containing configurable options that will be applied to the NetSupport School Student.
NSS_Student_User.ADMX
This is a user policy containing configurable options that will be applied to the NetSupport School Student.
These ADMX Templates need to be imported into your Active Directory domain Central Store. For instructions on how to do this, click here.
To apply configuration changes via Active Directory
- At the domain controller, run Group Policy Management.
- Select the desired policy to apply the NetSupport settings to or create a new policy.
- Right click the policy and select Edit.
- The NetSupport School templates will be located under:
Computer Policies – Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates
User Policies – User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates
The templates are called NSS Tutor Settings and NetSupport Student Settings.
- Within these templates, you will find the relevant NetSupport School settings that can be applied via Group Policy.
By default, each NetSupport policy option is set to not configured.
Note: To enable certain configurations at the Student or Tutor using the NetSupport ADMX Template files, you are required to enter an encrypted value, for example, the security key policy requires an encrypted security key to be entered. When configuring this through the ADMX Template files, you cannot enter the security key in plain text as it will not be recognised by the Student, so you have to enter an encrypted security key value into the policy.
To generate the encrypted values, NetSupport has created a utility called the NetSupport Encryption Utility. For further information on how to use and obtain the NetSupport Encryption Utility, click here.
